Automatic Plunger Rod Insertion and Self Adhesive Sticker Labelling Machines for Pre-Filled Syringes
A high speed syringe labeling & plunger assembly system for assembling and packaging prefilled syringes at 300PPM with optional backstopper / finger grip assemble. A DN1 standard Denester & Servo High Speed Denester connects to the system for automatic syringe infeed and can be used with a variety of track and trace systems.
The labeling device 10 is adapted to automatically apply a first label 100 including machine readable information 102 to a syringe 12 placed within the syringe receiving port 104 of the first labeling subsystem 16 of the labeling device 10. The first labeling subsystem 16 includes a label print and apply assembly 108 which is adapted to print the first label 100 onto a material, such as self-adhesive labels, and to place the labeled syringe 12 onto an outer case or box in secondary or tertiary packaging.
Labeling device 10 also includes a syringe clamp assembly 106 which is adapted to secure the syringe 12 within the syringe receiving port so that the first label 100 may be applied to the syringe 12. The syringe clamp assembly 106 includes a gripping component 120 which has gripping components that are movable between an open position and a closed position. These gripping components are pivotably connected to a carrier component 116 and a retaining ring 122 such that the gripping components can be movable between the open position and the closed position.
During application of the first label 100 to the syringe 12, the luer tip 42 of the syringe 12 is inserted through the central aperture 133 in the labeling device 10 until the luer tip extends beyond the luer tip receiving portion 129 within the alignment area 131. The luer tip 42 is then aligned with the syringe 12 and the first label 100 is applied to the syringe 12.
Once the first label 100 is applied to the luer tip 42 of the luer lock syringe 12, the syringe 12 is positioned within the syringe receiving port in the labeling device 10 such that the syringe 12 may be secured in the syringe clamp assembly 106 of the labeling device 10
In another embodiment, the syringe clamp assembly 410 includes an oblique roller clamp assembly in which a syringe 12 is placed in a V-shaped groove 412 of a syringe holding component 414 and a rotatably connected roller 416 would be lowered until it contacted the syringe 12. The arm 418 of the syringe holding component 414 would be movably connected to the base portion 420 via a pin connection 422 at the base portion 420 such that the syringe 12 can be oriented at an angle to the rotation of the roller 416. This angle forces the syringe 12 to rotate about its axis and thus allow the luer tip 42 of the corresponding syringe to rest against a reference surface during the application of the first label 100 to the luer tip 42.

Labelling Machine for Pre-Filled Syringes
Pre-filled syringes are a common form of medication, used in a range of healthcare settings. Labelling these products is critical to ensure that they are dispensed correctly, remain safe for the patient and maintain their brand value.
The right label material and construction are essential for successful syringe labelling. It should have a high resistance to shearing away from the surface so that it can avoid edge-lift over time, and also be resistant to migration of label components when exposed to a wide variety of conditions throughout the supply chain.
For these reasons, self-adhesive labels are preferred for syringe labelling. They offer excellent performance and flexibility in terms of dispensing speed, diameter and temperature.
In addition to the above, they are available in a range of materials, including metals, plastics and paper. In addition, they are able to resist autoclave sterilisation, and withstand humidity, making them an ideal choice for many pharmaceutical applications.
The ideal label material for syringes must also have the right properties to allow them to be positioned and released onto a syringe liner at speeds of up to 600 pcs / min. They should have a high initial tack and be designed to have minimal adhesive flagging over time, which is especially important for small-diameter labels on syringes with a diameter of 7 mm or less.
These characteristics are assessed and tested through FINAT-certified test methods, which assess the strength of the adhesive, the ability to shear away from the label surface and the overall resistance to movement of the label material over time. These tests are conducted to comply with industry-specific requirements.
A syringe labelling system can be configured for different syringe types and dispensing speeds, to ensure that the system is compatible with all the relevant syringe manufacturers. These systems are a cost-effective solution to label syringes and are a great way to reduce costs and improve productivity.
Depending on the product type, these machines are either connected inline with the syringe filling and sealing line or can be standalone. They can be fitted with various on-line coding options, such as hot stamping, inkjet, laser and thermal transfer, along with various inspection options to detect missing labels, pharma code, 2D code, needle cap and plunger-rod etc.
They are also equipped with a reject tray to automatically collect defective items. This allows the operator to inspect each syringe for quality and ensures that only good products are delivered to the patient or customer.
In order to achieve the highest level of quality, these syringe labelling machines are supplied with a range of optional features that include a syringe inspection station and a syringe-label inspection camera. These can be operated from an ergonomic interface and are suitable for all syringe sizes, both glass and plastic.
The syringe labelling machine is also capable of insertion and tightening of the plunger rod, as well as assembly and labeling of the backstop and safety devices, when required. All these processes are performed using proven emery traction roll and servo-drive technology, which gives extra precision and long term stability to the system.
